Digital development -IoT

The application of digital technologies is becoming a more systematic and less experimental approach for us.

We constantly analyse a large amount of data and information that we collect on a daily basis from the network to:

  • improve process monitoring;
  • effectively control company assets;
  • increase quality and safety standards in system management;
  • improve operational efficiency.

New Vision meter

We have already installed over 10,000 new “Vision” meters in the areas served.

This project is developed as part of the innovation and digitisation activities of our network, in order to increase its security and performance levels.

The new meter is characterised by particularly innovative features:

    • it ensures sustained performance in metering over time thanks to static measurement, minimising wear on moving parts, and to the dual communication channel—one primary and one backup;
    • it enables the energy transition by measuring the percentage of hydrogen in a hydrogen and methane mixture;
    • it guarantees more timely intervention as it is equipped with a GPS system to identify the precise position of the meter and with high anti-theft systems.
    • it is designed to read data via APPS and smartphones, because it has a direct interface with the End Client.

Network digitisation

Our Company has developed the 2iIoT digital platform and installed a significant number of intelligent sensors/devices, in order to allow effective and efficient remote control in real time

The 2iIoT digital platform:

 

  • allows the monitoring of field peripherals (remote control, remote measurement, and cathodic protection) throughout the entire distribution network;
  • ensures integrated and unified management;
  • enables technicians to work in a more efficient manner.

With the aim of managing all the “smart” equipment installed on the distribution systems, the 2iIoT platform is gradually converging the signals of:

  • remote control peripherals installed on reduction and metering systems (City gates and Bio-City gates), intermediate and final reduction systems (locally knows as IRI and GRF) and piping;
  • metering systems installed at City gates;
  • backup and control datalogger;
  • gas quality analysis systems;
  • cathodic protection devices;
  • automatic pressure control systems;
  • automatic metering line switch systems.

Advanced Analytics​​

The IoT sensors installed along our infrastructure enable us to read important parameters about the network’s operating status and facilitate the implementation of advanced predictive and corrective maintenance algorithms.

The information collected in real-time through IoT sensors installed in the field, which is a network of physical objects with integrated sensors, software, and other technologies to exchange data with other devices and systems, can be effectively analysed to detect the imminent risk of failures and malfunctions. This analysis allows for prompt intervention and prevention of such issues. In this manner, we enhance the level of network security and improve the efficiency of field operations by implementing advanced predictive and corrective maintenance algorithms.
